Numerical modelling of effect of tonsillectomy on production of Czech vowels /a/ and /i/

چکیده
Aim of this study is to numerically examine the effect of tonsillectomy on production of Czech vowels /a/ and /i/. Similar experimental studies are not easily realisable on living subjects. The finite element (FE) models of the acoustic spaces corresponding to the human vocal tract for the Czech vowels /a/ and /i/ and acoustic space around the human head are used in numerical simulations of phonation. The acoustic resonant characteristics of the FE models are studied using modal and transient analyses (excitation by a short pulse). The production of vowels is simulated in time domain using transient analysis of FE model excited by Liljencrants-Fant's (LF) glottal signal model. Calculated results show that tonsillectomy causes significant frequency shifts down to lower frequencies for 2 nd (down by ~40Hz) and 4 th (down by ~120Hz) formants for the vowel /a/, and similar shifts for 2 nd (down by ~100Hz) and 4 th (down by ~50Hz) formants for the vowel /i/. The frequency shifts of formants after tonsillectomy significantly depends on position and size of the tonsils.

The Study of Vowel Space and Formant Structure in Mazani Language
Objective: One of the parameters showing the correct phonetic and phonological development is the correct and clear articulation of vowels is achieved by changing the shape of vocal cords through altering the height and position of the tongue and the movement of the lips and jaw. The tongue’s height and position are the basis of the production and difference of vowels. In other words, the raw s...
متن کاملEffect of Dry Matter Content and Inoculation on Ruminal Protein Degradability in Alfalfa Silages
The aim of the experiment was to determine the effect of different dry matter content and addition of silage inoculant on the ruminal protein degradability. Alfalfa herbage was collected from two cuts and the fresh matter was sampled two times during each cut (with different dry matter content). During the preparation of experimental micro-silages, the chopped forage was treated with a microbia...
متن کاملبررسی ساختار سازهای واکههای زبان فارسی در بزرگسالان دوزبانه آذری فارسی
Objective: Vowels are the center of syllables while formant structures are one of the most important acoustic characteristics of speech sounds that help in their articulatory and perceptual aspects. Formants represent the shape and size of the vocal tract. There exist trivial differences between the vocal tracts of different people due to which the formant structures of a vowel in one person ar...
متن کاملUse of Yeast Culture in the TMR of Dairy Holstein Cows
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae SC 47) addition in the diet of dairy cows on their rumen fermentation and milk production. Animals received a diet TMR based on good maize silage with a higher dry matter content (14 kg), 14 kg of lucerne-grass haylage, 5 kg of crushed ears of maize, 5 kg of beet pulp silage, 3 kg of crimped wheat, 2 kg...
متن کاملStudy and Comparison of Formant Characteristics of Persian Vowels in 4-7-year-old Children Using Cochlear Implants and Those Using Hearing Aids
Background and Objective: One of the most important physical properties of vowels is their formant structure. One of the most obvious speech errors in hearing-impaired children is vowel errors. The present study aimed to determine and compare the formant structure of Persian vowels in deaf and cochlear implant children in the age range of 4-7 years. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-anal...
